Diabetes and Insulin: Doggo is starting insulin today We're giving X UNITS in the morning and X UNITS in the evening. FEED the pet After the pet eats something THEN GIVE HIM HIS INSULIN Roll the insulin bottle back and forth to mix up the insulin. Gentle. Turn the insulin upside down Insert the needle into the insulin and draw up 3x as much as you need. You should see a tiny 'bubble' in the syringe with the insulin. Push the insulin BACK INTO THE BOTTLE to expel that bubble Push the plunger in, until the proper units are found on the side of the syringe. Withdraw the needle and insert the needle under the dog's skin. You may need to control their head in case they wanna bite you. You can stick the needle under the skin if the needle is REALLY short, or you can just pick up a inch of skin and insert the needle into the END of the drift of skin. If you smell insulin, you may have missed. If they don't eat - give 1/2 dose of insulin. If they don't ear AGAIN - don't give insulin and reach a Vet. If the dog seems to have glassy eyes, acts lethargic or drunk - seems disoriented, that's a LOW SUGAR and you should put some honey in the mouth. That can just be in the cheek pouch. Do NOT change your dog's insulin dose. Not without talking to me. Doc Johnson You should further 'search' this site for more information because there are also downloads, explainers and even videos on diabetes I've done. |

Something else I found for my dog "Ajax" that's cool: |
Sporn Dog Halter STOPS "pulling and tugging" NOW. (Link) This is what I use now, with my dog Ajax. I used to use the Gentle Leader, but I didn't like including his face in the thing. Now, this just goes around his chest and he DOES NOT PULL ANY MORE. It's great! Amazon.com has it. | |
| You can buy a fat bundle of 'wet wipes' with Cetaphil and I'd recommend it. They're great for cleaning healing wounds, dirty ears, cleansing around some eyes, under-tails, surgery sites, sores. | |
