I have several goldfish (Comet) in my pond. Two of them have a growth on them. It looks like a boil or large pimple on one and one it looks like an ulcer. On one of my koi's ther is a growth near its rectum about the size of a dime.

What can I do? Thank you

First, you did not specify the size of the pond, the number of the fish or the quality of the water. Any fish in poor water in the Spring will break with Ulcers. So, actually the first thing to do is establish your water quality. (Look it up!)

Likely, in your preliminary investigation you will find that you have some accumulation of nitrogen, or a low pH.

After you've gone through and made sure your water quality is optimized, you would have a reasonable chance of saving those fish using either of the following regimens:

Regimen One:

Remove each fish and inspect the sores and bumps for a small greenish worm protuding from the welts. If found, this is Anchor Worm.

If found, use diflubenzuron to clear it. (Look it up!)

If not found, here's the rest of the regimen to control Ulcers and bacterial furunculosis:

Salt the pond to 0.3% (Look it up!)

Remove each fish and swab the wounds with hydrogen peroxide (Look it up!) ONCE:

Feed medicated food.

Regimen Two:

Do the same inspection for macroparasites as in Regimen one.

Do not salt the pond but begin the "every four day" potassium regimen.

Clean the wounds once as described above.

Also feed medicated food.
