Oily Skin from Atopy:
She has a condition called ATOPY which is "allergy" to dusts that she gets in. PRINCIPLY that's CAR SOOT that settles on the ground but can be fertilizers, herbicides, pollen, housedust, cigarette smoke, insecticides, moulds, leaf dust, and more.
All create inflammation in the skin.
Some dog's response to that is to create OILS in the skin to protect itself. That's called "seborrhea oleosa" or "oily skin" and the problem with that: IT TRAPS MORE SOOT on the skin!
So half of atopy-management is a hot wet wash cloth. It 'melts' the oils and waxes and lets you remove these oils without a "full on bath" which kills my back.
A good bath in a MOISTURIZING people shampoo from Burt's Bees, Pantene or Neutrogena are highly valuable as well. And then, something for the atopic allergy ITSELF and I like a cortisone or a Cytopoint.
But the bath, washcloth are the two BIGGIES. And cheap, too. And less medicines.
