Three Year Shot Cycle for Cats:

It's not my cat, you should do what you want. I'd never ever leave my cat unprotected from rhinotracheitis, or calici by skipping even ONE year but that's me. Part of that is my daily exposure and what I could take to my cat. But I've seen cats that missed their shots by a couple MONTHS and broke with viral upper respiratories. So I'm really overcautious. But I also wrote the following:

"Vaccine fears: Three things to know: A lot of people are immunizing every THIRD year for the airway diseases. I don't do that for "my" cats. But there's science there. And folks who've had a bad experience go that way: AND I DO NOT BLAME THEM. Rabies shot every year is good. The three year shot was designed for WOLVES and, if you heard what the developers said to me behind their hands in a whisper, you'd never give it, not even to a wolf. Rhinotracheitis is for life. It's an eye condition that never really goes away and a sinus swelling that comes and goes every 12-20 weeks. NOT pushing that immunization - because the vaccine is "good" for the three year thing according to some. And, they can get other related viruses NOT covered by the vaccine so I wouldn't push it, having you believe it was 100% protection. You have to be properly informed. I just know what I get back when someone's cat shows up with that. All the "I wishes' and "I should've" and I always say "Well you never know if the thing had it since early kittenhood, or if it's a different strain of rhino." Coz those things are true. "
