Ear Is Closed:

Ear is Closed meaning the ear is so swollen that the canal is closed with swelling.
This is a VERY big deal. Because the ear (once closed) will start to calcify (calcinosis) and turn into a chunk of stone on the side of the head. Infection trapped behind the closure can rot into the skull. If you're a Googler: "petrous temporal bone invasion in otitis media"
So we HAVE to get the swelling down, open the ear hole with medications, and then kill the organisms that have caused so much swelling. The CHALLENGE: The ear hole is closed - so how do you get the medicine BEHIND the bottle neck?
Entederm has a long thin dispensing tip. You should try to fish that through the ear canal. At first you might simply NOT be able to.
So we give SYSTEMIC meds to help at first. Then YOU have the job of clearing the Malasezzia in there.
SOMETIMES there's a rare 'germ' in ears like this. The last one was MERSA. It's gonna be fine but it took a CULTURE to find out. Let's hope just medicating works!

Step one in the morning: Instill and massage iodine in the ear, wipe excess
Humco 232516001 Povidone Iodine 10% Topical Solution, 16 oz.
Step two in the evening: Clean ear with this ear cleaner and blot dry

Step three after cleaning: Instill this silver-cream and massage into canal. Wipe excess.

This is what I use now, with my dog Ajax. I used to use the Gentle Leader, but I didn't like including his face in the thing. Now, this just goes around his chest and he DOES NOT PULL ANY MORE. It's great! Amazon.com has it.

You can buy a fat bundle of 'wet wipes' with Cetaphil and I'd recommend it. They're great for cleaning healing wounds, dirty ears, cleansing around some eyes, under-tails, surgery sites, sores.
